I have wanted to mod a Citizen Tsuyosa with a custom Kanji dial since they were splashed across my YouTube feed months ago. It made perfect sense to pair the two, much more so than with a PRX which has been the flavour of the last couple of years.
The dial is a new method I’ve been testing which allows me to define lines below a tenth of a mm – rarely used but a nice arrow in my quiver. Just for reference, the sub-seconds register dashes are 0.13 mm wide.
Tsuyosa means strength in Japanese and so I took the opportunity to use the Kanji for strength as the 12 marker. Not wanting to overload the dial with too much detail, I alternated Kanji numerals with unique dots in a calligraphy style. The date window forced my hand a little bit here as there was too much space to leave it bare and not enough for the 3 Kanji – I couldn’t resist using 3 dots as the marker though. I felt the alternating markers gave the dial nice balance with plenty of interest for repeat viewing.
This is just the first test dial with this new method and I’m already drafting the next one – a modern vintage sounded like a good challenge so that’s my next little deep dive.
